This large-scale sports facility has long been well known to rowing fans in our country. In the distant Soviet times it was the most technically equipped waterway in Europe.
The rowing channel in Krylatskoe was built in 1973year, and its opening was timed to the European Rowing Championship. During the 1980 Olympics, rowing competitions were held on this channel.
For a sports facility of this level, fortyyears is not age. Naturally, subject to regular updating of its material and technical base. But, unfortunately, in the 90s, when the USSR was collapsing, the channel was not financed, and the construction gradually began to collapse.
In the period from 2008 to 2011 the rowing distancethe channel was re-equipped: new systems of start and timing, modern arbiter catamarans for seventy million rubles were purchased. The changes made it possible to hold the European and World Junior Rowing Championship at the highest level. But this was not enough for holding the World Cup in 2012 and the World Cup in 2014, so the leadership of Moscow decided to continue developing the rowing channel "Krylatskoe".
It was decided to do the work gradually. The first stage was carried out in very difficult conditions: in the winter, when the frost reached 30 aboutWith, builders had to conduct monolithic works. At such low temperatures, this was very difficult, but the builders succeeded in fulfilling the assigned tasks on time.
The area of the landscaped territory after the first stage was about 40 000 m2. For the first time in the world in Krylatskoe was mountedMonorail video, which is also called a "traveling camera". She moves for the athletes at a speed of 60 km / h and transmits a very accurate and high-quality image on a large scoreboard, located opposite the spectator stands. Monorail, whose length is 250 m, successfully maintains and finish the distance.
The rowing channel "Krylatskoe" is unique. The most comfortable conditions for athletes and referees are created here. The canal has the most up-to-date finishing tower.
Further work continued in December 2013. A four-story hostel was built: during the preparation and conduct of the competitions in 84 rooms, 100 athletes can comfortably accommodate. The building has a conference hall, a buffet and all the necessary functional rooms.
After a major reconstruction in August 2014, the rowing channel in Krylatskoye for the first time after the Olympics-80 will host the World Rowing Championship in canoe and kayak.
From 1994 to 2009 the Rowing Canal in Krylatskoewas a municipal enterprise that did not receive financial subsidies from the city budget in the required amount and profit from its activities. Taking into account the interests of the city and Russian sport, in 2009 it was decided to transfer it to the Moscomsport system.
Reconstruction of this sports facility was completed in July 2014, and today it is fully prepared for the World Championship, which starts in August 2014.
This artificial canal stretches for 4 km alongthe coast of the Volga. It is located between the island of Grebnevskie Sands and the shore. Competition on this channel is not carried out. The quarry quickly filled with groundwater, and it was used to train athletes. So appeared the Rowing Canal. Rostov actively takes part in the All-Russian competitions "Don Regatta". Later, at the request of athletes, the rowing channel was extended to two kilometers. It is carefully looked after, cleaned and strengthened every year, and the quality of the water is monitored. Rostov sportsmen hope that this unexpected gift of nature will serve them for many years.
Rostov people are very fond of walking and practicing hereother sports. Along the canal stretch a bicycle and a running track, where adults and children run around, ride rollerblades and bicycles or just stroll through very picturesque places. Despite the fact that in fact the canal is within the city, the air here is very fresh and clean, as if far out of town.
