The phobia of a person or All of us is sometimes scary

Have you ever had to fear anything in the earlychildhood, say, darkness, Baba Yaga, aliens or a policeman? Was it the case? And now? Can you name at least a few things that frighten you so much that the emerging fear prevents you from enjoying life quietly?

For example, I can say about myself with fullconfidence: I feel very uncomfortable when a dog suddenly appears on a fairly close distance from me. And, by the way, it does not matter whether it's big or small, homely or stray. In addition, at the sight of the spider, a shiver runs through the body. But I still learned to control my emotions.

But there are people who simply do not know how to get rid of a phobia, and therefore have to live with it. What does such a life look like? Does she recall an episode from a horror movie or a protracted nightmare?

1. Human phobia: what is it?

In psychiatry, namely this science is engaged instudy of various kinds of phobias, this condition is usually classified as uncontrolled fear and excessively increased reaction to a certain stimulus. This kind of fear does not lend itself to any logical explanation and is exacerbated in certain situations that a person tries to unconsciously or quite deliberately avoid. For example, those suffering from herpetophobia, or simply people who are afraid of snakes, prefer to visit the forest as rarely as possible. And patients with claustrophobia almost never use the elevator, because they feel very uncomfortable in a closed room.

However, experts do not recommend calling any strong fear a phobia. To detect this kind of disorder a person will need to undergo a special test for anxiety in a special institution.

2. Types of phobias

Perhaps all the phobias of a person can be conditionally divided into two main types: common and very unusual.

Among the most common are:

  • social phobia, which impliesfear of any kind of public actions. Its common types are anthropophobia (fear of strangers) and peyraphobia (fear of exam or speaking);
  • acrophobia (fear of heights);
  • verminophobia (panic horror before the possibility of getting sick with some dangerous disease);
  • zoophobia (fear, experienced at the sight of some one, a certain kind of animal);
  • claustrophobia (unpleasant sensations caused by a closed space or rooms);
  • no-phobia - fear, to whichmostly children, afraid of the dark. Although some of the adults, including the known ones, suffer from it. For example, Jennifer Lopez, Keanu Reeves, Anna Semenovich;
  • fear of flying or pteromerechanophobia.

Sometimes I have to meet articles underthe title "The most ridiculous phobias". Honestly, I never realized that such a funny thing could be in the psychological suffering of another person. What are you laughing at here? Unusual phobias of a person, say, fear of sharp objects (aichmophobia), gravidophobia (fear of meeting with a pregnant woman), koulofobia (horror at the sight of clowns) and others are quite rare, but, nevertheless, they exist.

3. The phobia of a person - is it possible to get rid of them

Psychiatrists unanimously assert that at an early ageIt is possible to get rid of this problem independently. In this case, the specialist will not even need help. And only with time, if the fear of something is fixed in the psyche and begins to increase significantly, a person can be diagnosed with a "panic" disorder.

Phobia can be safely attributed to the category of acquiredor so-called "learned" fears. Why? Imagine a very small child. He was born absolutely fearless, he does not care about, say, fire or depth, he is not afraid to stumble, fall or injure himself. All this happens later, and with really useful fears that will help to prevent troubles in the future, the useless ones are also acquired, which can subsequently intensify and become a real phobia.

Here there is quite a logical question: "If you can learn to be afraid, then you can just learn and not be afraid?" The answer sounds very optimistic: "Well, of course you can!" True, in order to achieve this, it will take some effort and spend a certain amount time.

According to experts, on the Earth phobias are subject to a total of about 10 million people. But in order to get rid of fear, you need to adhere to the following rules:

  • establish the exact cause of your fear;
  • never focus on the feelings experienced;
  • try to cover your fear with positive associations. For example, if you are afraid of dogs, caress the neighbor's puppy, feed him with his hands, bring him out for a walk;
  • to allow oneself to be afraid. Perhaps, this is the most important point. Recognize that you are sometimes scared, because fear is a perfectly normal reaction of any living being in response to danger.

If you carefully follow the above rules, then after some time you will find that the intensity of fear has significantly decreased.
